If you’re confused about eco-labelling, then sit comfortably infront of your computer and watch the Natural History Museum’s film “Looking behind the labels”. It was filmed as part of a live audience and live web presentation at the London museum as part of their Nature Live programme. As the eco-market in the UK grows to be worth £30 billion a year more and more eco-labels are making their way onto our highstreets. If you want to get the lowdown on what we are actually buying then this film on the Natural History Museum’s website. will give you a good insight. The three speakers give a broad overview of labels, their history and how they work.

nspring22a.jpgGet your popcorn and your tissues ready because this Monday Bill Oddie and the team are back for Springwatch 2007. This year's show is based on an organic farm in Devon where Bill and Kate will be bringing us live footage of swallows, kingfishers, barn owls, badgers and other cuddly creatures. Simon King will be on Islay where he will be watching everything from majestic golden eagles to little furry bunnies. There will also be a chance to meet a family of urban foxes from Glasgow and see the trials and tribulations of being a small creature living in a big city. A real live wildlife soap opera that will leave the likes of Eastenders and Corrie in it's dust.

yalding_labyrinth1.jpgThe bank holiday weekend is almost here, and with it comes the usual mad rush out of the city and into the countryside. To me it conjures up images of slow moving traffic, bored children and irritated parents. How about a different day out this bank holiday? Why not take the train to Yalding and spend the day at Yalding Gardens in Kent.

Garden Organic Yalding is set in five acres of Kentish countryside, just a mile and a half walk from Yalding Train station.

green%20day.jpgCynics among you may think this post is really just an excuse for an old punk to show a picture of the lovely Green Day lads, but as they have just signed up to release a version of John Lennon's 'Working Class Hero' as part of Amnesty International's Instant Karma: Campaign to save Darfur I think it's more than justified! The single will be included on an album of John Lennon covers, featuring other artists like REM, U2 and Snow Patrol. All proceeds will go directly to Amnesty International.

spinaltap-1.jpgMock rockers Spinal Tap will reform for a special appearance at the Live Earth concert at Wembley Stadium on 7th July. They will feature the original line up in an attempt to save the planet from global warming. Lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel (played by Christopher Guest) is reported to have said "I don't know much about global warming. I thought it was because I was wearing too much clothing, and if I took some off it would become cooler". A new 15 minute film, charting the lives of the band since they last reunited, will also be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in NY, which is being hosted by Al Gore. The festival will be opened with the showing of several short films about global warming made by the Save Our Selves campaign.

no%20snow.jpgThe National Trust asked ten photographers to answer the question 'what does climate change mean for Britain?' using their cameras. The results are shown in a new photography exhibition at Hoopers Gallery in London from the 12th of April, before going on tour around the UK - see below for all dates and venues.

The images (which you can preview online at the National Trust and Guardian sites (some different photos at each), show how wide the impact of climate change already is: the 'permanent' snowline on Snowdonia has moved drastically; exotic plants (and diseases) now flourish on the British Isles; and once-full moats and rivers run dry.

bgg.jpgThe Big Green Gathering is going ahead again this year in Cheddar (Somerset, not the cheese) from the 1st - 5th of August.

Tickets are on sale now, at £105 for the entire festival. If you book before the 1st of May you'll get £5 off each adult ticket.

al_gore320.jpgPoliticians love to use rock’n’roll to spread their message of peace and unity across the planet. They know it‘s a sure fire way to get the ‘apathetic’ youngsters of today interested in a cause (and let’s face it, slogan t-shirts are in!).

Al Gore has been whipping up an eco storm all over the world with his series of lectures on climate change and his movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. It was only a matter of time before his bio diesel powered bandwagon would come up with the idea of a Live Aid type concert to spread his message. Except, as usual with the Americans, this concert has to be bigger and better than anything that’s ever gone before. And so he gives you...Live Earth.

While an eco fashion show raising money for Comic Relief in an Oxford nightclub may not sound as glamorous as front row seats at Marc Jacob's first London Fashion Week show, the Ethical Fashion Forum did their damndest to make sure it was as close to the real thing as possible.

The show started nearly an hour later than expected - although guests were mollified with a range of canapes - and there was enough chaos front of house to keep any fashionista happy. Separating the Oxford venture from the world of high fashion was the homely touches: coltish students practicing their model walks along a line of white tape on the floor, proud parents arguing over the operation of their digital cameras, and groups of boys wolf-whistling at every sashay.

While it's disconcertingly unlikely that your walking tour will look like my Niagara Falls trip of '03, what with the great absence of white stuff going on these days, at least you can visit all Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust centres for free on 2 February to mark World Wetlands Day.  Wetlands may not seem particularly glamourous - they lack the obvious charm of the seaside, for example - but I spent a lot of time on the marsh as a young teen and developed a deep appreciation of its subtle beauty, as depicted here by my once-tutor Thaddeus Holownia.  Wetlands are also a essential filter of natural and unnatural poisons that otherwise pour into the water table.  Finally, can you look a duck in the eye and tell it to go get a condo?  [GT]

Quebec City's 400th anniversary occurs in 2008, and part of the celebration involves six Contemporary Ephemeral Gardens. Each garden will be designed by a living artist, to be established in the heart of the festivities, and to live only so long as the celebration does, from June 10 to September 28, 2008. Each garden should address the three major themes of the festival:

Where the river narrows;
Your history, my history, our history ;
and Sowing the seeds of culture.
