teapigs organic matcha.jpgThe days are already getting shorter, darker and gloomier and for some us this means the start of several months of feeling distinctly SAD. So it's generally around this time of year that I start looking for pick-me-ups. I've not yet fired up the energy lamp, but this may be because my daily cuppa is doing the job so nicely: I've been trying organic Matcha, (a rather magical brew that has 137 times the antioxidants of standard green tea) by Teapigs, and it's really putting a spring in my step...

burtsbeescoconut.jpgIt's rare to find foot cream that smells so good you don't want to wash your hands. This cream makes that grade with a delightful coconut scent with just a hint of peppermint. When you apply it your feet it sinks in really quickly and has a lovely thick texture. It's a little sticky to begin with, so you might want to use it at night in conjunction with thick socks, for intensive moisturizing. It's saturated with coconut and olive oil to make it deeply hydrating, and there's also Vitamin E to penetrate deep down.

You're never to young to start taking your makeup off (that is if you're wearing any at 8), but it's always good to make sure your skin is cleansed before you go to bed. This new range targets youthful skin with gentle cleansers and creams to keep it in tip top condition. Creator Elizabeth Hallett was inspired after seeing the 'trauma of breakouts' that her daughter experienced. Yeah, it's tough being a teen.

skinny skinny soap.jpgI've raved about Skinny Skinny's bath salts before -- a real treat if you like products so natural you could almost have made them yourself, if you had the time and inclination to do so!

Since then, I've also had the chance to try their soaps, which are also a fantastic, eco-friendly treat for the senses...

Thumbnail image for Katie_thumbnail_cropped.jpgAfter reading Leila's "Can you have a plastic-free period?" article here on Dollymix, I decided to bite the bullet and finally get myself kitted out with a hippy-sounding Mooncup. How did I fare? Keep reading to find out!

susan_posnick_colorflo.jpgWe've reviewed loads of mineral makeup brands recently, from the established names to the newcomers brought in by the current mineral trend. But few names are as long-established as Susan Posnick in this game, so I thought I'd give some of her products a try, starting with her Colorflo foundation and ginger blush.

OrangeLip-big.jpgSummer has most definitely packed its bags and left town, leaving us to contend with all sorts of fun ailments like colds, dry skin and cracked, sore lips. Many of the lip balms you'll find in the shops contain chemical ingredients you might not want on your skin (let alone right where you can eat it!) but some are made from far safer ingredients. I'm a fan of this one by Simply Soaps...

roll-on-stone-deodorant.jpgI've made quite a song and dance about several of the reviews and challenges I've done for this blog over the past few weeks, but there's been one I've kept completely schtum about: my latest 'hippy deodorant' trial. For the past week, I've only been wearing Roll On Stone deodorant; an unscented, aluminium-free roll-on. So have I lost any friends in the process?

glomarvelousinpinkkit.jpgMineral makeup is great for those of us who want to look good without plastering obscure chemicals on our faces, but now you can support a good cause as you brush on that powder, too!

Glo Minerals has launched a new set of pink cosmetics, with proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The kit, which would make a great gift, includes and eye shadow trio in ballerina and a lip gloss in pink ginger. You can find out how to order one here.

africology.jpgI've been trying out a range of products by Africology this week: they're new to the UK, and their sales benefit good causes as well as your skin.

All products in the range contain natural ingredients with anti-aging properties are fragranced using essential oils, not synthetic perfurmes. I was biased towards several of these products alredy, mostly because several of them contain neroli, my absolute favourite essential oil, which is native to Africa. The marula skin conditioning body oil, for example, is absolutely heavenly, and a real treat for skin that's looking a bit tired. Seemed to work a treat on my dreaded mosquito bites, too!

It may be August but Origins has got its thinking cap on, and come up with some December treats that will excite you now! Last year they asked you guys to knit for charity, and they want you to continue the trend this year! £1 from every Ginger Essence bottle sold will go straight to Shelter, and you'll feel good about yourself to boot. And did I mention that a couple of high profile designers have also got involved?

purely organic facewash.jpgIt's become my mission to test out every single organic facewash going (hey, we all need an ambition in life) and am happy to say that people seem eager to aid me in this quest. This week, I was sent a sample of Purely organic lavender and palmarosa face wash by Edible Beauty, and have just put it through the 'mascara test' to see how well it copes with removing makeup.

My verdict: this is a natural cleanser containing no parabes or SLS, so I was impressed with how quickly it lathered up. The scent is fresh and floral, and as soon as it hits the skin, you can tell it's a very mild product.

trevarno organic sun cream.jpgLots of face creams on sale around this time of year have UVA and UVB sun filters built in, which is great if you've got sensitive fair skin, like me. But in my experience these also tend to be made by the more chemically laden brands.

This is why I now swear by this little pink pot of goodness by Trevano. Its (100%) Organic Day Cream is light enough to wear comfortably in the heat, and contains added vitamin E and titanium dioxide, a natural mineral that reflects the sun's rays. It's not too pricey either: £11.55 at Edible Beauty.
