oils.jpgFor those with dry skin, facial oils and serums provide a quick moisture boost that doesn't have the greasiness associated with a moisturiser. They seem to be everywhere at the moment, with lots of organically certified, natural and paraben-free products to choose from - and I've been really impressed by the way a few small drops of a really good oil or serum can rejuvenate the complexion.

Until recently, it was hard enough to find any decent skincare products that were made from natural, organic and sustainable ingredients - and if you were a man you might as well have not bothered. But in the past year, a crop of male grooming products that care for the earth have emerged, and are proving more popular than anyone ever realised - even Mick Jagger is said to be a fan! Great for men with a green conscience, as well as those with allergies, green beauty is no longer just for girls.

body america organics.jpgIf you're looking for a bit of pampering after the excesses of Christmas and new year, getting hold of some skin-nourishing treatments is always a pleasant and calorie-free way to go about it. On my radar for new smellies to try at the moment are these fun products Body America Organics.

They call themselves 'Organics with attitude' and their saucy imprints of sailor girls and forties style bikini babes definitely give that impression. They contains no parabens or UREA and are made up of 72% organic ingredients. You can choose from scrubs, body butters and lip balm to mists and mousse, and I haven't even told you the best bit yet- the scrumptious flavours.

winner1.jpgOur immaculately turned-out sister site Kiss and Makeup has been picking out its top products for 2008, and included in that countdown for the first time is a category for green and ethical cosmetics; another area that has shot to prominence in the last year.

Winning the 'best green beauty product' award was one I tested over the summer: It's Sukicolor's tinted active moisuriser. Follow the jump to find out why it was chosen, and what was picked as best green skincare product.

ecotools.jpgA while ago I was persuaded to try using mineral makeup, and was really quite chuffed with the results. But as someone who has shunned powder for most of her adult life, had to hunt around for suitable brushes to apply the makeup. I made do with the cheap, plastic sort you find in chemist's shops for a while, but recently I found out about a new range of 'beauty tools' that are not only fab quality, but are made from eco-friendly materials, too. Ecotools, which have recently landed over here from the States, are made from good stuff like bamboo, and perform remarkably well.

purityproject-thumb-410x237.jpgRemember the Purity Project range I reviewed back in September, which led to some of the kindest remarks I'd ever had from colleagues? Well, my skin's still benefiting from these marvellous, toxin-free potions, and yours can too if you couldn't quite afford that range until now, there's a fantastic special offer for hippyshopper readers that will save you 50% on orders over £25. urban decay minerals.jpgI'm already a big fan of Urban Decay, thanks to their outstanding commitment to animal welfare, and of course their strong, dazzling colours. And now they've brought out a minerals range as well as greening up their packaging, they're hitting my eco-friendly radar as well.

Surreal Skin is the name they've picked for their new mineral foundation; a light covering base with a subtle shimmer. Kiss and Makeup's Zara gave it a go, and liked the fact that when you rub it in you can layer on the makeup for a deeper look, and it has a very nice finish, with smallish shiny particles that are light reflective.

back_massage.jpgNeal's Yard has been offering treatments for a while now, but its new massage deal, designed especially for stressed-out shoppers, is really not to be missed: for the great price of £25 (£35 in London), you'll get a full table massage, complete with natural aromatherapy oils by one of the company's highly trained therapists -- a far cry from the rushed chair massages that I'm used to finding in shopping areas, and actually cheaper than some, too! I had the chance to sample this new treatment yesterday, hoping for relief from my aching shoulders...

cream.jpgA year ago, I started testing products in what was then quite a niche area of skincare: natural and chemically simple moisturisers and cleansers that didn't contain any ingredients that had raised concern. The idea of removing parabens (preservatives), SLS (a foaming agent) and animal ingredients was still considered a crazy move by many profit-driven beauty brands, so it was mostly unknown labels that had made the most progress in this area. But now, you're spoilt for choice if you want a more natural option for your skin, and the quality of the products has improved dramatically in just a few months.

bobelle.jpgWhile the Isabella Smith range at Bobelle does remind me somewhat of the sort of thing my mother had on her dressing table in the 80s, I have to admit to a certain fondness for this type of old-fashioned, sweet-smelling ladies' powder room fare. The melon bath oil, with emollient apricot oil gives a really rich, relaxing fragrance that will perfume the house as well as your body, and best of all the range is made to strict eco-friendly standards: ingredients are 100% natural and stored in recycled glass. The bath oil is £14 from Bobelle.

make your own moisturiser.jpgWe're used to skincare being presented as a complex science, so at first glance, making your own potions and lotions sounds like a daunting idea. But skincare is really very simple, and you can make a very versatile day to day moisturiser using just three ingredients. In an age of ruinously expensive skincare products and obscure additives, there's no surer way to avoid putting unneccesary junk on you skin than going down the homemade route, so here's a basic 'recipe' to get you started.

timotei.jpgWe all remember the Timotei ads of days gone by: only yesterday, a dark-haired colleague was heard to confess that she had thought as a child the shampoo would transform her short, dark, curly tresses to platinum blonde. But now Timotei's all grown up, and celebrating its 25th birthday with a more serious gesture towards nature and to helping our natural heritage. It's teamed up with The Woodland Trust to create a crop of 'forests of flowers'.

burts bees naturally ageless.jpgWhile I love getting my bod covered in natural beauty goodies in the name of research, it's good to let the experts loose on the latest 'hippy' products every so often to see how they measure up. Burts Bees is one label that's recently extended its natrual range to compete with the more chemical-laden anti-aging potions and lotions lately, so our friends at Kiss & Makeup asked beauty expert Ashlene McCormack to put their Naturally Ageless serum (£26.99) to the test.
