BigEco%20bag.JPGYou carry an eco-friendly tote when you're in the supermarket aisles but what about when you're walking up the aisle? Your 'bag for life' isn't quite going to cut it on your big day...

Love Eco have come to the rescue with this Big Eco Clutch Bag, which got Bridalwave's seal of approval today as perfectly suitable for a wedding. You'll fit all your wedding essentials in here (makeup, tissues, mini bottle of gin) and few will guess at how green the bag really is: its buckles are vintage and the leather comes from remnants from the furniture industry and they're lined with bronze silk. £49.99 at Love Eco.

Ladies: We are now in a leap year, which means it's your chance to 'pop the question' on 14th Feb! (If you believe all that superstitious nonsense, of course.) So if you're dreaming of a 2008 wedding, why not check out some of the green bridal goodies you can do the deed in over on Bridalwave?

Today, they feature these stunning Te Casan shoes. Available in nude satin, with a bow over the toe, only 60 pairs of these 'Gem' shoes will be made in each size and they would look great with jeans later or dressed up with a pale summer suit too.

If you want to walk down the aisle with your head held high, you'll need to make sure you're wearing a dress that you're truly comfortable in. So, in addition to not eating a whole bar of Green & Black's every evening between the dress fitting and the run up the wedding, you might also want to try buying a dress which comes from an ethical supplier.

For London based brides-to-be, Wholly Jo's in Uxbridge offers dresses made from "peace silk", hemp and organic cotton. They also offer alterations and restylings for those who would rather recycle a dress than buy a new one. Gaiahouse in Sussex offers dresses made from peace silk, as well as a range of ready to wear dresses. Conscious Elegance in Durham makes all its dresses with 100% SKAL certified organic cottons and pesticide free silk and hemp/silk blends, with plans to offer cruelty free silk very soon. They also allow you to send in measurements and buy a dress without visiting the shop.

Ingle%20Rhodes%20ring.jpg

With the opening of Ingle & Rhode’s online e-boutique in September, ethically sourced and produced jewellery is suddenly a lot easier to find and buy. With safeguards in place to assure the provenance of all their gemstones and metals, it’s much easier to be confident that the piece you’re buying comes at no cost other than money – it’s an admirable business practice by any means.

On top of that, their designs are wonderful and varied, and there’s also a bespoke service allowing you to help design a ring of your own making. Ethically sound and aesthetically pleasing, what more could you ask for?

It may be a little early to start thinking about Christmas, but the London & Scottish International have got me all excited about Christmas parties (or any Friday night for that matter). And the reason why? Their award winning organic spirits.

Top of the bunch is the classic Juniper Green Gin. This smooth-as-can-be gin is made with delicate herbs, including juniper and coriander seeds, for a taste that is so pure and clean that only the finest of mixers (if you must) will do. I recommend sweetener-free Fever Tree Tonic.

For a gold star vodka martini (or bloody mary), get your hands on their UK5 vodka. It doesn’t leave you with any icy harshness in the back of your mouth - instead it’s gently but perfectly potent.

Both drinks are made from organic grain, natural yeast, and fermented the old fashioned way without any chemical enhancers, glycerol or carbon filtering.

stephanie-rays-bamboo-small-pendant-with-leaf-detail.jpgThis month sees the launch of a beautiful range of ethical jewellery by Ingle & Rhode . They only buy conflict-free diamonds, which are cut and polished by workers employed in good conditions and the origin of all their gem stones can be traced back which ensures their ethical nature. The gold is fairly traded and mined without using cyanide or mercury. The communities they trade with benefit from 10% of their profits, which go towards funding health, education and development.

6454b7c6dc43bc210c04ae8d5cbf65d7.jpgIf you're looking for beautiful and sustainable jewellery VerdeRocks are the company for you. They make stunning pieces by recycling old jewellery that has been mass produced and then discarded by larger jewellers throughout history. They will not use any material unless it's sustainable, believing that all businesses must consider their impact on the environment and act responsibly to help leave a smaller footprint on the planet. The results of this technique, and philosophy are glamorous, sexy pieces of jewellery that don't cost the earth. This Art Nouveau snake necklace is made from recycled brass on a 22" chunky vintage brass chain. It certainly has the wow factor and will only set you back US$130.

recycled_teepee.gifBy Nature promise “green living in style…no compromise” in their advertising and I have to say that I think this to be true when viewing their products in their online store. They are green, organic and ethical in everything from bed linen to underwear, diningware to towels, books, magazines, stationery, clothes for adults, maternity wear and children’s clothing, and one of the only organic, fair trade or local flower delivery services I’ve seen online in a major store. Their range is truly comprehensive and their standard of service, in my experience, is also great.
There is also a wedding list service in which 10% of the total amount spent is matched and given to a charity of your choice. The Paperpod recycled cardboard teepee has to be one of my current favourite children’s products for the summer (if it would ever stop raining, that is!). And best of all, By Nature currently have a summer sale on, with up to 50% off until 26th July! So, stop by and stock up.

Hemp wedding dress from Threadhead Creations

hemp%20wedding%20dress.jpgDreaming of a green wedding? If you're also hoping to pick out a beautifully original dress for your big day, Threadhead Creations' collection is the best range I've seen by a long way. As well as being a stunning gown in itself, the 'landscape dress' (pictured) dress is made from eco-friendly hemp.

If you're concerned that this one might just divert attention a little too far from the star of the show, there are plenty more classical designs - also made out of hemp - here. Prices start at $550.

Ecocentricgifts.JPGWhen I first mentioned EcoCentric on Bridalwave, I lamented their lack of wedding gift registry. Well, thankfully, that has all changed and now you can register for your eco-homewares from their full range of products. Pick from items that include recycled glass dining ware, bamboo towels, organic cotton bedding and plenty more.

After your wedding day, all the gifts will be delivered free of charge. Find Ecocentric's wedding gift list here. [via Bridalwave]

So, whilst they aren't your standard gold or silver or with any fancy stones, at least you've got a good idea were they came from. You can personalise them too by having them made from almost any type of wood to your exact specifications from almost any piece of timber. Prices start from around $120 for a pre-made ring with bespoke designs on request.

Ethical wedding lists from By Nature

gift.gifI've always found the whole concept of a wedding 'list' a little unethical. Asking your friends to buy you stupidly expensive pans for the privilege of watching you tie the knot -- without even granting them the luxury of their own judgment? I don't know...but if you don't happen to think it's a contradiction in terms, By Nature has just introduced ethical wedding lists to its arsenal of green products, so you can ensure that your friends don't gift you with anything that's come from a sweatshop; each product is carefully screened for its eco and social credentials. By Nature will also match 10% of the total amount spent on each wedding list and give this money to the couple's chosen charity. Sounds pretty fair to me!

This is the first time, after engagement rings, that your wedding becomes officially 'on' for most of your guests. Worried about using so much paper though? Get your cards from Millbank and Kent and they'll a plant tree for every order over £250. You could even make your own with a variety of papers and soy inks from Organic Weddings and some styles are implanted with seeds so they can be planted later. For expert handmade styles take a look at Dragonfly Invites who also have a range of eco-favours.
