People Tree's new off-the-peg collection preview just landed in my inbox, so here's a taster of their summer casualwear. With all the usual shapely, organic cotton tops and tees, there's an emphasis on cartoony, pencil sketch designs to complement the range of cool kaftans and simple summer holidaywear. People Tree's clothing has become increasingly affordable and accessible in recent years, allowing many of us to bring fairtrade into our wardrobes in comfort and style.

As it's the start of London Fashion Week on Friday, I'm doing a bit of a whistlestop tour of the current crop of new clothes from eco-friendly and ethical designers. Today, it's the turn of EDUN, the ultra-hip label founded by Bono from U2 with the creative genius of rising star Rogan Gregory. The ethos behind the label is to bring trade - not aid - to the third world.

It's been a while since a new ethical fashion collection crept under my radar, so I'm glad to see that the market is still thriving even in the current tight-arsed finanancial climate, and exciting new designer lines are still emerging. Between now and London Fashion Week I'll be keeping an eye on what's new in the eco-chic catwalk world, and the first collection to catch my eye is the Spring/Summer range from Kiilerich.

If you're planning to purchase some lingerie prior to next weekend's celebration of all things lurve-related, your main concern is probably avoiding anything too tacky. But let me assure you that by far the best way to ensure you buy quality pants is to look at the ethics behind the label: sustainable knickers are well-made knickers!
More than pretty knickers is your guide to buying 'good' lingerie that hasn't ever seen the inside of a sweatshop, and comes from fabric sources that are good for the environment. There's loads of advice on what to look for and avoid, you can read all about 'bad pants' and what's wrong with them and watch a video that shows you what's really in your knickers.

We could all do with a bit of escapism on a miserable day like this, so let's imagine being somewhere you could get away with wearing nothing on your feet but these hand-made 'Gurkees' rope sandals that are so light they even float!
Made with no glue and from recycled yarns, they're a great eco buy that would be perfect for holiday or festival-wear. I can almost feel the sun beating down on my back just looking at them! £29 from Beyond Shoes

Until now, I had reached the conclusion that every single possible permutation of a 'non plastic bag' bag phenomenon that could ever be invented had already been done (to death), but it seems there's more life in that particular old dog yet - and given that a widescale move away from plastic bags has been shown to make a difference, this can be no bad thing!
The latest idea is to take the plastic bags handed out by supermarkets as the basis for your design, and create hand-made 'replicas' of those familiar designs. This one is by OBudah on Craftster. I've not seen any based on UK supermarkets yet, but think this is a great idea I'd love to see someone try it out with Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose designs! [Via Crafty Crafty]
