Top 12: Best Organic Products (part one)

Comments (10)

By Emily Brett

What was the last item of organic food you bought? Answering that question might be straightforward for some, but not everyone. There is still a huge demand for organic food. However with one eye on a faltering economy it seems that shoppers are often plumping for value products rather than organic ones.

With less money in our pockets it seems that we have become smart shoppers and more choosy about the organic products we buy. So to help you out we have compiled a list of products, all of which we have tested and which we think deserve a place in your shopping basket.

Best Quick Meal Essential

Some organic products taste fairly similar to their non-organic rivals. Not Pesto though. If you have ever tried organic Pesto you'll know that it tends to taste fresher and more tangy than its rivals. We really like Essential's Pesto range. It is easy to use, you just dilute a little with olive oil.

It comes in Parsley and Red Pesto varieties. Our favourite is the Rocket Pesto, which has a really peppery kick from the rocket and goes well with chicken and courgette.

Best Store Cupboard Must Have

Coconut Butter is becoming a mainstay of many kitchens now thanks to its sublime taste and unique make up of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), which make it both healthy and nutritious.

We regularly use it as an alternative to olive oil when cooking and it works really well in stir frys too. With its subtle, nutty flavour Higher Nature's Coconut Butter is among the best we have ever tasted.

Best Drinks

Pink Guava, Apple and Grape JPEG.jpgRDA Organic Drinks Stocked Nationwide at Waitrose and Ocado.com
It is so odd how we often end up giving our kids, sugary, fizzy drinks when there is now such a good selection of organic fruit based drinks that are much better for them. RDA has a a great range that will appeal to both kids and adults.

We especially liked the Blueberry and Apricot flavour. Stuff that tastes this good really shouldn't be included as one of your five a day. The drinks also comes in a squish and squeezy range ideal for children's lunchboxes which can be resealed.

Best Organic Treat

green-blacks.jpgGreen and Blacks Chocolate from £1.26 at stores nationwide including Abel and Cole
In our books there's no better way to end the day than with a glass of wine (organic of course) and a chunk or two of Green and Blacks chocolate. But did you know that chocolate can be good for you?

Green and Blacks ethically sourced, premium organic chocolate has lots of anti-oxidant properties which can help in a small way to keep you healthy. As you probably already know there is a large range of Green and Blacks chocolate, though I have to admit we rarely get past the 70% dark in our house.

Best Cleaning Cupboard Product

Dr Bronner's Liquid Soap - Rose.JPGDr Bronners Liquid Soap £4.99 from Waitrose
Dr Bronners is a great example of an organic product that has captured consumers' imaginations. It is apparently the number one selling liquid soap in the US and is shifting in large quantities on this side of the Atlantic too.

Our pet theory as to why it is so popular is that you can also use it for cleaning dishes and washing veggies as well as keeping your hands clean, which is very handy if washing up liquid was the one thing you forgot to add to your shopping list.

Best Candles

The Fine Cotton Company Organic Candles - from £16.00
www.thefinecottoncompany.com

fine cotton company (candles).jpg This range of organic wax candles are all hand poured and hand finished in England, hand made using 100% organic plant wax and exquisitely blended with pure essential oils. They come in seven stunning aromas - our favourite was 'Love Me...', a relaxing yet refreshing smell of rose geranium with a stunning fuschia pink gift box.

You can be safe in the knowledge that all candles in the range are clean burning which means they are free from petroleum based paraffin wax, animal or beeswax products and therefore emit no black smoke, soot or carcinogens. The candles are also free from petroleum based dyes or fragrances. If that wasn't enough, the wax is manufactured from sustainable natural plant sources and therefore kind to our Environment.

What would be the major AND minor organic product when 2,6-dimethyl-4-heptanol reacts with H2SO4 with heat?

Awesome product really gonna order it. thanks

There are 2 methods that might be usable for you. Tangle foot is probably your best bet for one tree. Use a red target trap hung in the tree with the compound on it. The other method is to spray the fruit with with a water clay mixture to coat the fruit before the insects attack it. For single tree use, the tangle foot seems to work best.

My mouth is watering reading the names of black chocolates. I would say that it is a very tasty post.

yes I agree, seems I always do when reading your blog

Pesto i know that it tends to taste fresher and more tangy than its rivals. We really like Essential's Pesto range.

My combination of salad is a combination of asparagus, courgettes, butter beans, peas and rocket cashew pesto on ciabatta - yumminess!

Organic is always good.
