If you're familiar with spending Easter weekend (and the majority of the following week) feeling seriously sick having consumed life-threatening amounts of chocolate, then you'll be glad to hear that this year you can at least do it without feeling guilty.

Fairtrade, organic and otherwise friendly easter eggs mean that you can stuff your face without feeling the slightest bit bad, although we can't do a lot about the sickness. So, we've picked some favourites for the ethical bunny to bring you this Easter.

The choices you make about how and where you spend is where the power to make positive change lies. See our simple four step guide to ethical consumerism to learn how you can become part of making the change.

Asda locally sourcedLocally sourced
Ever felt guilty about your carbon footprint when you've taken a holiday abroad? Well, don't forget that the last grapes, oranges or wine you bought probably took the same journey before making it to your local supermarket. Luckily, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons now all stock locally sourced products, so pay attention the country and area of origin labels on fresh produce when you buy.

Second hand
Charity shops are a good place to start, especially for Fairtrade fashion. Oxfam have revamped several stores which are now dedicated to fashion and even sell some special items online. If you have plenty of time to rummage and an eye for fashion, then you'll be surprised how many fashion finds there are in almost every charity shop.

If you can't find what you want in a charity shop, try local newspapers, or buying second hand online. All second hand buying prevents unnecessary waste and unnecessary production.

With claims of being the 'Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable, Family Car', it's no surprise than Nissan's recent announcement to produce their electric Leaf in the UK has caused bit of a buzz in the world of green cars.

The last decade has seen that eco-friendly cars don't have to mean questionable designs, poor efficiency and impracticality. And while hybrids have been leading the market, with everything from hydrogen to seaweed power in between, fully electric cars are now proving that their performance is up to par.

So here are some green car highlights, summed up into a handy list of pros and cons.

With the longest, coldest, most horrible winter since the dawn of time almost behind us, a spring clear out is well and truly on the cards. While chuck-it-in-the-green-bin recycling is a good place to start, you might just find that your trash is just what someone else is looking for and that it can live a much more useful second life.

For any household goods you're ditching, Emmaus is the perfect place. The charity employs ex-homeless people who undertake a range of tasks, including restoring donated furniture and using profits to live self-sufficiently.

If the thought of a spring cleanout on your own seems daunting, roping in friends should make things more bearable, and if the word 'party' is involved it's almost quite appealing. Swishing parties are a top trend in eco-friendly fashion at the moment, letting you revamp your wardrobe without buying anything new.

As much as we all enjoy endless hours waving virtual lighters and popping virtual bubble wrap, you'd be forgiven for wondering if there was something a bit more... err...constructive that you could do with your iPhone, writes Kathryn Rodgers.

Well, by some miracle it looks like you weren't the only ones wondering. While you've been sipping your virtual pint at the virtual pub, some eco-conscious apps creators have been busy working on an array of green apps to help you help the planet.

Doffed caps to Debbie Callender and her bloke Ray O'Neill, who between them have come up with a really superb new veggie cooking blog Fiver Food. Debbie is a real natural in front of the camera and the videos (and indeed the choice of recipies) are first class.

They will apparently be uploading two new videos each week. Anyhow here's the vid for Veggi Chow Mein.

With March welcoming the first cloudless days of 2010, I can't be the only one to notice certain people thinking that this warrants cracking out the shortest shorts and the tightest tanktops, despite the still freezing temperatures. With enough power to source the world's energy consumption 1,000 times over, solar is undoubtedly an underused energy source. So, if you want to enjoy the early blue skies without losing any of your limbs to frostbite, then let these solar powered gadgets soak up the sun while you stay safely wrapped up.

Fashion weeks go Fairtrade

Comments (340)

With the 2010 fashion weeks falling around Fairtrade Fortnight, we haven't failed to notice that ethical, eco-friendly and Fairtrade fashion has been one of the biggest talking points in Milan, Paris, New York and London. Some of the biggest fashion weeks have dedicated shows and events to Fairtrade and eco-friendly fashion, with Esthetica at London Fashion week showcasing 28 designers who fit the friendly fashion bill. Of course we've all known this for a while, but if it gives us some more Fairtrade fashion to admire then who are we to complain?

Viv Westwood bottles.jpg

Dame Vivienne Westwood has paired up with SIGG, the makers of the original Swiss reusable aluminium bottle, to build awareness around the unnecessary waste and harm that is caused to the environment by purchasing and throwing away plastic.

And the strange, but kooky relationship between the two has created a limited series of design bottles.

The three Limited Edition Vivienne Westwood bottles will be launched later on in 2010 and will coincide with the main fashion shows in June and September.

These limited editions will be exclusively available to invited guests and backstage at the shows, as well as a few available in selected stores.

Get drinking ladies. It's good for fashion and the environment.
