Recycling and cosmetics - it sounds an unlikely combination. But UK aromatherapist Andrea Garland has brought both passions together with her all-natural range. Her one-off beauty items are bursting with vintage chic. A selection of balms and creams are supplied in tins, compacts and pots from the household staples of the last century, from sewing kits to travel sweets. They're all completely unique, and best of all, you can return your tin to have it refilled with your favourite balm.

Andrea Garland's website is as charming as her products, with characterful illustrations to guide you through the range. The smallest offering is Lovely Lip Balm, priced between £12-£16 (depending on the tin). It's made with Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Beeswax, Vitamin E, and Lime, Lavender and Benzoin essential oils. There's also Rosy Beauty Balm, a facial moisturiser made with not one but three rose extracts - Rose de Mai, Rose Geranium and Palma Rosa, as well as Shea Butter and Jojoba oil. This gem is supplied in a range of gorgeous vintage compacts, costing between £28-£34. Completing the vintage range, there's Body Balm, a hard-working all-over moisturiser, and Sore Muscle Rub, for tending aching limbs after exercise. Andrea also makes a range of creams and oils for face, hands and body, supplied in glass jars with labels beautifully hand illustrated by artist Melissa Thompson.
To get a refill of your vintage item, just return your tin or compact to Andrea's London address to have it re-sterilised and filled again with your product of choice. Refills are quite a bit cheaper than the initial price, so despite these products being on the expensive side, you can make savings in the long run. It's all about long-term sustainable solutions! And vintage cuteness, of course.
Find the products online at Andrea's online store, or visit the stall in London's Brick Lane market on Sundays to browse the range in person.
