The new meat-free burger - which it took Redwood ten years to perfect - has been described as 'so realistic it's spooky'. Producing the winning recipe involved testing it against every other veggie burger on the market, and presumably a few 'real carnivores' were drafted in to verify its authenticity.

Redwood's Director Ketih Scott, now something of a world expert said: 'the problem with most meat-free 'beef' burgers is that they tend to be rather 'mushy and claggy' when you bite into them. "Most people only switch from meat to meat-free when there is a really credible alternative," he says. "But we think people will be absolutely bowled over."

According to Keith, it's the use of fresh ingredients such as onion and traditional home cooking techniques that makes the Redwood burger particularly stand out, especially when it comes to texture. The new Gourmet burger, which is chilled rather than frozen, is made from 100% ethical and sustainable natural ingredients and free from animal ingredients, hydrogenated fats and oils, cholesterol and GMOs. It's also free from wheat, so is suitable for people with coeliac disease too.
