Tomorrow is Earth Day. So what are YOU gonna do about it?
Since its humble beginning in 1970, Earth Day became a global event in 1990, with some 200 million people getting involved. And now Earth Day 2009 is expected to attract between 500 million and 1 billion! Will you be one of them and what will you be doing?
Here are a few suggestions:
You could walk to work instead of driving. You could make Earth Day a recycling day. You could use less water or less power. Don't throw away or lock away your old mobile or PC, recycle it! You might even be able to make some cash in the process. If everyone in the UK had a meatless meal once a week it could save more carbon than 5 million cars. Imagine the potential of becoming vegetarian or vegan!

• Get the kids involved by planting a tree in your garden.
• Volunteer to help out your local animal rescue centre or nature reserve.
• Leave that car at home and bike into work - the forecast is looking good!
• Go online and unscramble an Earth Day picture puzzle at www.primarygames.com/holidays/earth_day/games/dragdrop/start.htm or print out this US activities booklet at www.epa.gov/region5/publications/happy/happy.pdf.
• Watch your local news for details of events happening near you, such as the launch of the Eco Schools programme in Scotland (designed to encourage whole school participation in green activities). Colleges and 6th formers in Lancashire will be battling it out in a Dragon's Den style bidding cometition, hoping to secure thousands of pounds in environmental funding.
• Feeling energetic? There's a 5 mile walk in London organised by Aveda.
• If a day down on the farm is your preferred means of getting close to nature, there's an Earth Day exhibition in Norfolk at Deepdale Farm.
• And when you've finished getting up to your green goodness, register your contribution at and help create a 'billion acts of green'.
