Green horse leads climate campaigners into battle

london-g20-protest.jpgIf various media sources are to be believed, it's all 'kicking off' here in London as a motley crew of over 4,000 protesters are mobilising to rise against global capitalism amid preparations for the G20 summit in London. A more accurate description of the situation (so far) is that over in the City, parades of protesters are making their way to the Bank of Endland led by four "horseman of the apocalypse" representing the most pressing issues that participants want the G20 to address.

Championing the case for addressing climate chaos is a green horse, and while some of their comrades have been breaking windows, the green mob are apparently erecting 'hippy tents' in the heart of the city.

So what exactly to the green protesters want out of the G20 meetings?

Green groups represented today include Climate Camp, WWF and the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition. Most want to urge the G20 members to seize the opportunity to tackle climate change and global economic downturn together, recognising that the problems often have shared solutions. WWF even go a step further than that, saying: "Measures to reform the global economy to achieve economic security will only succeed if they have environmental sustainability and equity at their heart."

So far, it all looks pretty peaceful in the areas taken over by green protesters, so let's hope they continue to set an example that gets these messages across loud and clear!
