If you're wanting to reduce carbon emissions at home, the kitchen is a good place to start as it's the room with the most things that heat up and burn their way through the most electricity and gas. It's also where most of our cleaning products live and is the best place to handle recycling, so this post is all about how you can do that in style.
Follow the jump to find out about some of the shiny new products currently available to help green up your kitchen in time for spring.
Clockwise, from top right:
The Ovetto Recycling Bin is the ultimate, alien kitchen accessory that looks like it's beamed down from another planet to save ours. Available in all sorts of juicy colour combinations or smart black, it contains three compartments and a central bottle and can crusher to effortlessly compress your waste. £129 from EcoCentric
The Tefal Quick Cup Deluxe is a new-look model of the classic Quick Cup that works just the same way as the old one, heating water rapidly in a way that saves around 65% of the energy used by a standard kettle -- which Tefal say will save you £80 off energy and water bills throughout the year. It's a lot more stylish than its predecessor, and the red, black and stainless steel finish will work a treat in your chic eco kitchen. £68.49 at Argos
Colour-centre bamboo bowls. We all know how incredibly sustainable bamboo is, and that the more stuff we make from it the better. But when it looks this good, who needs reasons to buy it? This set, by Bambu is an instant classic and available at the Inhabitat shop for $56
Maison Belle natural kitchen cleaner. This has got to be my favourite cleaning product of all time! Made with essential oils, it works effectively on all kitchen surfaces, smells (to me) like spring, has none of that noxious, chloriney quality to it that most harsh, chemically laden fluids do, and comes in a beautiful bottle. Better still, it's not even expensive. £6 at Roullier White
Compost bin by Beth Stevens. I love these rustic, brightly painted bins that will store your peelings and food scraps before they're ready to go and feed your garden. So much more attractive than the plastic variety, you'll find you use it more if you don't have to hide it under the sink! £16.95 from Beth Stevens
