When it comes to home repurposing, the kitchen may seem like the most daunting prospect yet. It's full of electrical appliances, hots and cold bits and seems somehow beyond our reach, but don't be put off: there is plenty you can do inexpensively in the kitchen using stuff that might otherwise be destined for the skip.

You don't actually need a cellar to make this utterly eco-friendlty proto-fridge. In fact, you don't even need a basement, as I plucked this idea from someone who lives in a fifth floor flat. Baileys Recycled Home manual recommends that if you spot an old wardrobe, you should snap it up as they make fantastic larders for the kitchen. All you need to is fit it out with a few shelves (made of recycled or discarded wood, of course) and add mesh doors if you prefer.
