Chocolate week may seem like a pointless marketing stunt; albeit one I approve of wholeheartedly (free chocolate. Duh!). But for the Faitrade Foundation this week has had a somewhat deeper significance, it it endorsed its 300th chocolate product with the fairtrade mark: Divine's new Champagne Milk Chocolate Truffles.
And encouragingly, the Foundation also announced that sales of Fairtrade cocoa products for the quarter April to June 2008 grew by 24% from £5m to £6m for the same period last year. Quite a surprise in these credit crunch-ridden times.
