ZERO WASTE WEEK: Let's hear it for Timpsons
I love shoes, and I love buying new ones. But more than anything else, I like to keep hold of the ones that looked great in the first place...
This is not as simple as it may sound, as I also destroy shoes. I have a unique ability to wear heels down to nothing in a matter of days, and used to give up shoes for dead once this had happened. But then I got my favourite Mary Janes (pictured) and became so attached to them that I decided I'd look into getting them repaired. Five years of happy wearing later, I haven't looked back.
This is, to a great extent, thanks to Timpsons!
The trusty high street shoe repair chain (which seems to be everywhere) is not the only good cobbler in the country, but it's certainly the most prolific, and I've personally been very impressed by how they've managed to bring my shoes back from the brink of death on multiple occasions. Not only does this mean I get to wear my favourite shoes year after year, but it also creates a significant shoe-shaped gap in the amount of rubbish I send to landfill.
It's arond this time of year that I generally get my autumn/winter shoes fixed, and the Mary Janes are being operated on as we speak. I wish I'd taken a 'before' photo as they have seriously been in the wars. But I've never been disappointed when I've sent them in for repair in the past, and am looking forward to getting them back later today in mint condition. And for a tenner, that's far better than buying a new pair...
