The Pretenders go eco with seed paper CD sleeve
Seed paper was a very trendy way fo people to scream "I'm green!" a year or two ago, and makes for a fun gimmick that is a bit better for the planet than normal paper if you can be bothered to plant it (so far my attempts have been unsuccessful, but do send me your pics if you've managed to turn a seed-paper business card or envelope into a blooming garden).
And now, The Pretenders have jumped on the bandwagon with a limited-edition seed paper sleeve for their latest album.

Cynicism aside, the move will reduce the amount of virgin paper and plastic used in the production of the band's new album, Break up the Concrete. Perhaps more significant is the fact that the album will be encased in card that's certified by the FSC. It echoes the decision to sell the DVD edition of Leonardo Di Caprio's climate change documentary movie The 11th Hour in packaging made from renewable resources and Radiohead's decision not to initially release In Rainbows in a physical format at all, a move which no doubt reduced the overall packaging used, since many fans who originally downloaded the album did not need to buy it in CD format.
