We've talked a lot about saving electricity this week, but what about saving water? If you want to keep an eye on how much you're washing down the plughole, this fun new gadget, the 'eco showerdrop' will be your new best friend. And if you're taking showers to avoid wasting water, the results it gives may just surprise you...

Different showers mean water use varies from house to house, so whilst timing your shower is a step in the right direction, it doesn't tell you how much water is being used. The ECO Showerdrop can help by letting you know how much water you're using and will alert you when the recommended amount of water has been dispensed. The savings can be substantial in terms of water and energy: a family of four could save over £180 per year, as well as 40,000 litres of water and 2/3 tonne of CO2.
You can buy the Eco Showerdrop at Nigel's Eco Store for £11.97

what I really want to know is how this works. And what kind of plumbing degree you need to have to get it to work.
i like it, it's like an alarm to tell you to hurry things up. I can put it on my husband, i swear sometimes he falls asleep in there after a long day.

We sell this too at My Greener Home (http://www.mygreenerhome.co.uk). The way you set it up is to measure the time it takes for your shower to fill a defined volume of water (using a measuring jug from your kitchen for instance). Once you have set that into the unit, it will know what rate water comes out of your shower head, and thus how long it will take to use the recommended 35 litres of water. No plumbing skills required at all. Promise. Edwin
