ORGANIC FORTNIGHT: How to get involved
Yes, it's that time of year again: Organic Fortnight now seems as much a part of early autumn as shorter days, conkers and in its ability to creep up really quickly and make you go 'crikey. Is it really September already?'
And with it come another year's worth of exciting developments in the world of organic food, drink, clothing and more, all brought to you with a host of fun activities and events.
Follow the jump for our roundup of ways you can celebrate best of organic in 2008.
There's so much going on this year that the Soil Association has provided an event finder to help you track down Organic Fortnight activities taking place in your area. Using this tool, I picked out a few especially fun sounding events, but there are many, many more to choose from.
Chocolate tasting in West Sussex
No surprises why this one jumped out at me! Free chocolate is never a bad addition to a girl's (or boy's) day, so if you're local and fancy some gratis bars of luxury handmade organic chocolate by The Chocolate Alchemist, then get over to their HQ in Lodsworth, West Sussex. They'll be handing out free samples all through the fortnight from 9.30am - 5.30pm, at The Chocolate Alchemist, 2 Swan Lane, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4EQ, T: 01483 561479
Cheese and (biodynamic) Wine in Central London
It could be the strange rituals, the moonlit harvesting and strict growing conditions practiced by Biodynamic winemakers that make the wine taste so good, or I may just have been particularly lucky with the varieties I've sampled. But either way, I'm more than willing to test that theory and try a few more, and this 'relaxed' evening in Pimlico will provide the opportunity to do just that, as Daylsford put on a tasting evening along with a mouthwatering spread of their organic cheeses. Sounds good? 6pm - 8pm. Pimlico Store, Daylesford Organic, 44B Pimlico Road, London, SW1W8LP, T: 020 7881 8060
Knitting and textiles workshop with Greenfibres in Cardiff
Our recent shop of the week will be holding two workshops in its Cardiff HQ. Greenfibres will teach you all about organic and natural textiles and materials in the first, which culminates in 'making something', and the second covers organic and natural knitting wool, both on Saturday 13th September. It's just £10 per workshop (or £16 for the two) but you may want to email to ensure a place. They're also offering all customers 20% discount on all fabric and wool orders placed during Organic Fortnight, just quote code ORGFORT20% on the website or telephone and you're away!
