LED lighting is a really exciting area of technology, as it has all the energy- saving benefits of CFL bulbs, but without the harmful mercury. And it's improving all the time: the cost of LED is going down as the light quality achievable keeps getting better.
This is the first concept I've seen, however, for an LED bulb that's compatible with the fittings we all have at home. This LED bulb by Frog Design looks much like an incandescent bulb. It also works like one, uses the same sockets and gives off the same warm colour. The only difference is energy savings and a life span of 30+ years! [Via Ecofriend]

Unlike CFLs, these stylish bulbs do not contain any mercury and can be easily recycled without damaging the environment. The lights are cleverly crafted and have fetched the designers an IDEA Gold Award for their eco-friendly design. So next time you buy these lights, you've got to remember that with each installation not only are you saving a tremendous amount of money, but you are also contributing your bit toward the environment.

We've been trying to convert to LED at home, but it's a bit of a minefield. Changing transformers, cool vs warm white, and radio interference have all made my efforts less than satisfying. I welcome any idea that makes LED an easier reality in the home.
Seems to be lots going on in this area, so I'm pretty hopeful there'll be loads more affordable, effective and home-friendly LED lighting in the shops soon.
why not write a line or two about who sells these things. If they really exist - where do I get them?
