The Conservatives may be doing their best to push the environmental image with their new logo, but today it emerged that Labour are the true tree-huggers of the UK political scene! The party has become the UK's first political organisation to attain Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation.
Why, you might ask, should a body of politicians carry a marque that you'd more commonly find on wooden goods? The answer is very simple: the party committed to purchasing only sustainable paper products for its national and regional campaigns. And some bright spark thought to mention this to the FSC.
Hilary Benn MP, Labour's Environment Secretary, said: "Winning the fight for Britain's future is about ensuring a fair deal for our environment and generations that follow us. As a party we are committed to promoting recycling in the workplace and at home and it is right that we lead the way on this.We are very proud of this status and, as the only political party to achieve it; it shows Labour's commitment to protecting the environment."
So, whether or not you approve of Labour's wider environmental policy, it's good to know that it'll be written on environmentally-sound paper...
