Done with your wedding dress? Why not donate it to The Liberian Wedding Dress Project

Liberia.jpgHow much would your dream wedding cost you? In Liberia, where women typically work for a dollar a day, it can take up to a year to save for a white wedding dress. So when Reverend Louise Collins married Liberian Ambassador Alpha Bird Collins, they set up a charity to help the women of the West African nation. Marred by 15 years of civil war, the nation is on the up with its first ever democratically elected female president but the infrastructure is still poor with healthcare and education still suffering.

"Basically the idea is we take the dresses to Liberia where our local partners will loan them out to Liberian brides, for a small charge to cover cleaning and so on", Louise told the Sheffield Telegraph.

Dresses can be dropped off at St Cuthbert's Church, on Barnsley Road, any Sunday morning. Donations can be made payable to Action Love Liberia and sent to St Cuthbert's Vicarage, 7 Horndean Road, Sheffield, S5 6UJ. Or call Louise and Alpha on 0114 261 1605 for more information.
