Supermarkets forced to electronically tag organic chickens

With food prices spiraling out of control and families struggling to cover the cost of anything more nutritious than budget pork pie, pricey organic produce has become a prime target for thieves.

The food crisis has already prompted concern that crime rates may rise, and sure enough, a 'surge in shoplifting' has forced many supermarkets to put electronic tags on organic chicken and expensive cuts of meat. Tesco is one chain to have introduced tagging, and organic lines were the first in line for extra security. So next time you see someone running for the exits with a healthy looking corn-fed chicken stuffed up their jacket, don't bother running after them...
