Review: Sukicolor tinted active moisturiser

suki-tinted-moisturizer.jpgWhen my sample of Sukicolor's new tinted active moisturiser landed on my desk, I was already pretty excited. I'd read several rave reviews of this product, and was dying to give it a try.

The main appeal of the moisturiser for me is that it's a rare combination of two things I love: minerals, and moisture. Mineral powder foundation is great if your skin has some natural moisture to it, but for those of us with a dryer complexion, it can be uncomfortable to wear -- so this seemed like a godsend. But when I opened up the pack to try it, I was initially a bit shocked by the shade of the liquid: it looked so dark that I had to be coaxed by our intern and makeup addict Emily into putting it anywhere near my ivory-pale skin!

Read on to find out why I was glad I did...

What is it?

A sheer, tinted, mineral moisturiser, made from natural pigments and containing organic extracts. The term 'active' here refers to the fact that the product contains ingredients thought to be beneficial to the skin and also aims to enhance your 'natural beauty', adding radiance. It comes in two shades: 'Natural' (which I tried), for fair to medium complexions, and 'Bronze' for medium to darker skins.

What's good about it

Despite being called a moisturiser, this product works well as a light foundation. The dark pigment I initially baulked at blends seamlessly into the skin with no 'caking' whatsoever, reducing the appearence of any blemishes and wrinkes. I also found that the claims made about adding radiance were well-founded, and it gave my skin a really healthy-looking glow.

I also found that an unexpected bonus was that the tint caught in my (usually invisible) eyebrows, giving them definition and eliminating the need for pencilling them in!

The ingredients in this moisturiser are genuinely natural: unlike some products making this claim there are no chemical nasties in here, and a high proportion of it is organic. All ingredients are also cruelty-free, while the packaging, papers, inks are made from recycled and recyclable content.

If you don't get on with powder, this is a great alternative that feels nourishing to the skin.

What's not so good:

My only complaint would be the price! But at £38 it's still cheaper than its main competitor, Youngblood's liquid mineral foundation (£42 rrp)

Price: £38 at Touch My Face
