Did you know it's Recycle week? Neither did we...
This replica model of Big Ben made entirely out of Coca-Cola cans was unveiled on London's South Bank today, at the start of WRAP's Recycle Week. An impressive feat of craftsmanship, isn't she? But so far, the statue seems to be the only piece of evidence that Recycle Week is even happening...
As Bean Sprouts pointed out earlier today, there is no webpage for Recycle Week (teh horror!), and no indication that any events have been organised, all of which leads me to the conclusion that this is just another stunt that serves no real purpose. WRAP's site bills the event as 'a week of exciting, high profile activities focusing on the benefits of recycling.' But there are none listed at present -- the statue, it seems, is simply there to remind people about recycling, which may work well for passers-by, but I'm amazed the power of the interweb has not been used to full effect here.

It’s such a pity! The majority of the 7 billion greeting cards purchased in the US each year are discarded. Despite the beauty of their design, the purpose of greeting cards is to provide your family and friends the feeling of importance, then be thrown away! The landfill is the final destination for all these beautiful cards…until NOW! By using Thoughtful Card Sender labels you can recycle and extend the life of your valued greeting cards.
Impress your family and friends by using these money saving and environmentally conscious labels at http://www.thoughtfulcardsender.com!
