Make a footwear veg-pledge for summer

vegetarian shoes2.jpgWith National Vegetarian Week just around the corner, it's time for us all to examine our footwear choices as well as our diets...I'm as guilty as the next shoe fanatic for my addiction to leather, but particularly in the summer months there are so many great alternatives it's rarely necessary to resort to animal derived materials.

So, I've decided I'm going to try and avoid leather in any footwear I buy this summer. Read on over the jump for some veggie shoe recommendations!

Since plastic shoes are now acceptable in fashion terms, I'm tempted to go for the jelly look for beach shoes, and am particularly keen on Melissa's bubble-gum scented shoes which are made from recycled plastic making them green as well as animal friendly.

Tom's Shoes is your first port of call if you want super ethical espadrilles, and Vegetarian shoes' Ace pumps (pictured above) are also cute as a button and would make useful summer wear. You can pick them up online for £39.95

I can recommend Vegetarian Shoes - I bought some blue docs from them more than 10yrs ago and they are still going strong!

Thanks for the good write up on Sarah Smith by the way - its always nice to be noticed!

I have to say, I do love TOMS shoes and I own two pairs of them, but the one thing I have a teeny problem with is the fact that the insoles are made of leather.
Sure, they make the shoes super hard wearing and comfy and a better fit (they have a bit of raised padding for your arch) but I'd probably be even happier with the shoes if they used something other than leather.
But everything has a price, right?
