Epson printers get Energy Saving Trust's seal of approval

epsom printer.jpgIt may seem strange that a printer of any sort should get the thumbs up from an environmental body, but the Energy Saving Trust has just granted Epson its energy saving recommendation label; the first to appear on a printer.

The recommendation was based on three criteria; energy (Watts) used when the printer is on-ready to use, energy used in sleep mode and energy used when on standby. The only question in my mind is should the EST really be endorsing a technology that uses paper where greener alternatives may be available?

The reality of the situation is probably that the prospect of a totally paper-free world is still pretty far off, however hard we try not to print out emails and put things on paper that could be kept in digital form. Here at Shiny Towers we have a strong 'don't print unless it's really necessary' policy, but we do still need to print occasionally and so we do need printers. It's good to know that there's now one out there that won't waste too much energy while it does its job -- and remember, you can always print on recycled paper, too.
