Alexa Chung to launch anti-sweatshopTV show

alexa chung.jpgTV presenter and former model Alexa Chung is hoping to blow the lid on the controversial world of sweatshop workers in a brand new reality programme for Channel 4.

In the 'reality TV' show, Alexa will investigate the conditions that factory workers in Asia, who get paid as little as 15p an hour, work under by setting up her own sweatshop right in the heart of London's Covent Garden. I can't help thinking of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's mock-up intensive chicken farm here, and wonder how realistic the conditions will be...

Chung's 'frockumentary' provisionally titled Dress For Less, will uncover the truth behind how clothes are really made for some of Britain's biggest High Street fashion brands, on evidence sourced from the Far East.

"I love affordable fashion but I'm questioning the real price of £2 T-shirts and £8 dresses," she said.

"I wanted to experience the reality of conditions in some of the Asian factories that supply our retailers - and it's an eye-opener."

The show will follow a staff of 15 volunteers, who are all bargain lovers, as they work for 60 hours over five days straight. It is set to air later this year. [Via Catwalk Queen] Image: Getty
