Nike's new trainer is absolute rubbish
Nike has come up with a novel way to make sustainable shoes in a way that only a huge company such as itself could do on a large scale: it has raided its own scrapheap to produce a new range of shoes made entirely from discarded pieces.
The shoes are made using a technique called 'frankenstyle' stitching, meaning that even tiny pieces of discarded scrap can be used. But Nike aren't stopping with the shoe: boxes will also be made from recycled material and the outers soles are made from 'environmentally preferred rubber'. If you like the look of the trainers but are concerned about Nike's overall ethical record you can hear it from the horse's mouth. We've certainly seen a few positive steps from Nike recently, including using more organic cotton in its products and aiming towards 'zero' waste; a goal that will clearly be helped by this project.

The "horse's mouth" is probably not the most reliable source of information about Nike's ethics...
