Madonna on cover of Green Vanity Fair. But why?

madonna1.jpgWhat's Madonna doing on the cover of Vanity Fair's third annual Green issue? (apart from suggestively clutching a replicat Earth in fetish gear, that is.)

It seems most of the green community are asking the same question. Madonna's carbon footprint has already been scrutinized in the light of her association with Live Earth, and it seems she's far from being a Thom Yorke: 'carbon emissions from nine houses, a fleet of cars, a private jet and the Confessions tour', claimed one tabloid, calling her a 'climate-change catastrophe.' According to other reports, Madonna leads the pack of the worst individual rock star polluters in the world.

Seemingly oblivious to the accusations against her, the Queen of Pop has since gone headlong into a row about congestion charging in London, attacking London Mayor Ken Livingstone for his plans to hit drivers of gas-guzzlers with higher charges, and calling for what appears to be a special rock stars' exemption! In her own words:

'I would make it so that aspiring musicians wouldn't have to pay the congestion charge, or pay taxes' she told Q magazine. 'Now all Red Ken [Livingstone] wants is road works going on everywhere. Don't use the Tube; can't use the roads? No, I'll just have to walk."

You say "calling for what appears to be a special rock stars' exemption!" but why didn't you bother to read the actual quote?

'I would make it so that aspiring musicians wouldn't have to pay the congestion charge, or pay taxes'

She was making a light-hearted reference to the struggle of starving artists who have to use public transport (it's not all about being green, all the time, you know) and don't have the money to. Your agenda, here, is too clear.

this woman has done more to raise the green profile amongst the mainstream than anyone else, recently. You do yourselves an injustice to jump on the bandwagon and criticise the woman. Doesn't Al Gore get around in a private jet? me thinks so.

Lesly:
as Jack Osbourne was quoted as saying in 2007
Better steer clear of Madonna, young Jack Osbourne. The Saving Planet Earth presenter has slammed Madge for being a hypocrite about green issues. He tells ZOO mag: "She goes on about saving the planet but she owns stock in companies that pollute the environment. It's b******s."
-----
Their "agenda" is telling the truth about Maodnna: she's a hypocrite!

Oh, Jack Osbourne. Sorry, that makes such a difference! Because, surely Jack Osbourne would know, right?!

WOW.

When was the last time Madonna used the tube?

Ugh, she's on there b/c she has an album to promote and "being green" is popular right now. Makes no sense at all otherwise.

Other than the boots (which are not green, BTW), I don't see what is so attractive about this photo. Madonna looks like hell with the bleached hair and the facelift. She comes off as hypocrite and a sellout. It seems everything she does is forced, calculated, and never truly spontaneous or genuine.

Think of all the covers she could do, for instance, if the globe behind her read WORLD TRADE ORDER. Then she'd be in her element. Instead of a leather corset, put her in a Starbuck's T-Shirt. Have her pose with her many "international" face-makeups... Such as a little Ming "China" Face, or a "Japanese" Face, or the face of an Iranian. She could also do black face, with a black baby in her arms! She could dress up as Madonna doing Michael Jackson! All THAT would make more sense!
