Is dirty hair really better for the environment?
A recent report in the New Scientist would suggest that long-haired crusties who never wash their hair had it right all along: greasy hair can absorb ozone from the air, thus reducing the amount of ozone pollution.
Unlike the high flying type of ozone, which anyone who lived in the aerosol-banning '90s will remember is a Good Thing, ozone in our immediate environment is bad for our health. And the grease on unwashed hair has actually been shown to absorb around seven times the amount of ozone than washed hair. So next time you're feeling a bit lazy and fancy hitting snooze instead of hitting the shower, you can rest easy in the knowledge that you're dirty hair is leading to cleaner air that's better for all concerned!
