'Greener' motor oil comes from dead cows
You may have read today about a new motor oil going on sale in the states from next month. Its makers say that it's a greener alternative to traditional oils used for cars, lawnmowers and boats because it comes from a renewable source: animals.
Unlike fossil fuels, which use the oil from long-dead creatures, 'No Smoke' 2-Cycle takes waste material from slaughtered cattle which would have been used to make deeply unhealthy chips in times past. CEO Jeff Marshall explains: "We're doing something to help because there's no longer a use for french fries and cooking products that use trans fats." He also pointed out that unlike traditional oils, you could "spill [2-cycle] motor oil over the back of boat--it doesn't harm the environment." Sounds good when you think of all the wildlife damage brought about by oil slicks.
But what do you think about using motor oil from beef fat? Can it ever be green (or used by vegetarians??)
