Sainsbury's makes clothes from 'own waste'

patagonia-recycled-jacket-made-from-plastic-bottles.jpgIt may not sound like the height of chic (and possibly a 'bit rubbish') but Sainsbury's has taken an innovative step for its TU clothing range, and is making garments out of its own recycled packaging.

The range will include jackets made from plastic bottles, similar to this one by Patagonia. Skirts, trousers and shirts are expected to follow soon, and the chain will be using plastic from various sources, including its fruit and veg packaging and meat trays. What I'd like to see is more cleearly labelled recycle points in the supermarket carparks so customers will be encouraged to recycle more plastic, which is still a bit of a sticking-point when it comes to disposal.
