Restaurants join 'water on tap' campaign
Hot on the heels of Panorama's expose on tap water, London newspaper the Evening Standard has launched a campaign to make London's tap water freely available in restaurants and bars.
Wagamama, Starbucks, Strada and Giraffe have all opted in to the scheme, which amongst other things will end the "still or sparkling" routine that waiting staff regularly go into when taking orders. Personally I still think anyone too scared to simply say 'tap water please' is a big wuss, but if we need a campaign to save people's blushes, let's hope it makes a difference! Britons currently drink three billion bottles every year (and half a billion are flown or shipped from overseas), and 70% of the public think mineral water in restaurants is too expensive. Let's all stop being mugs and boycot it. [via This is London]
