Sofa so good: M&S launches eco furniture line

mns-sofa_1333.jpg
The next step in Marks & Spencers' Plan A programme is a range of sustainable home furnishings made from eco-friendly materials.

At the moment, the 'Fern collection' consists only of sofas, which are upholstered with fairtrade, organic cotton, framed with sustainable timber and stuffed with a combination of castor-oil based foam and you've guessed it' -- our old friend the plastic drinks bottle. 122 of them per sofa, to be precise. These are assembled in factories that run on renewable energy as far as possible. The prices are competitive, with a two-seater sofa coming in at £899, a smaller model selling for £799, a sofa bed at £1,199 and an armchair at £599.
