EcoShield case for iPod nano: eco-friendly or just unnecessary?
At first I wondered if the EcoShield was so called because it was somehow environmentally sound, or because it was actually eco-friendly. It turns out it's a bit of both. The case from Agent18 is designed to protect the third generation "fat" iPod nano with a two-piece sliding deisgn, lens protector and full access to all the bits and pieces.
But I have to object slightly to iWorld's marketing of it. Apparently it's manufacture includes recycled materials "making it... perfect for the environment". Well, perfect for the environment would be not making the bajillionth iPod case, surely? The iPod itself has used up enough resources, I would think.
Using eco-friendly post-consumer plastics and recycled packaging materials as Agent18 has done is great. I can only assume they're also recyclable. However, while I don't want to dissuade companies from an environmentally sound approach, they do need to understand that recycling still uses up a lot of energy and new swathes of packaging and marketing materials - whatever they're made of - are no picnic either.
