All the fun of the fair for Fairtrade Fortnight!

fairtrade%20fair.jpgFairtrade Fortnight (25th Feb - 9th March) is almost upon us again and it kicks off this weekend in earnest with a 'fairtrade fairground' on London's South Bank.

Promising to be a great day out for all the family, there'll be a fairtrade tea cup ride, a towering Helter Skelter, a fairtrade coconut shy, candyfloss made with fairtrade sugar and even a fairtrade fortune teller (who, I can only assume, will be using Traidcraft tea-leaves!) Everything at the fair will be brought to you by organisations, charities and businesses that support or sell Fairtrade products. You'll also get the chance to meet the farmers and workers behind the products, and learn first-hand the difference that Fairtrade is making to their communities.

I love the idea of holding an event like this to prove to people how ethically-traded goods can be as varied and interesting as those that exploit third-world growers.

Fairtrade Foundation Executive Director Harriet Lamb said: “We hope that people roll up to join in the fairground fun, and learn about the serious message behind Fairtrade as well.

“Millions of farmers and workers are walking the delicate tightrope of international trade. When market prices wobble they risk falling into devastating poverty. Fairtrade offers them stability, so they have the confidence to look ahead and move towards a better future.”
