Prince Charles' eco empire has expanded into the fiercely competitive lunch market, with a new range of organic sandwiches due to arrive in Waitrose stores later this month.
Duchy Originals' sandwiches will provide office workers with an option that's posher than Pret but no more expensive than most other 'gourmet' sandwich options, with prices starting at £2.99. As you'd expect, ingredients are all organic and the sandwiches are handmade. Flavours include Cornish brie with plump, vine-ripened tomatoes, cheddar cheese with relish and Marine Stewardship Council approved smoked mackerel with mayonnaise, creme fraiche and gooseberry dressing. If the sandwiches are anything like the other 'Duchy' products, I will not waste my money.I have tried several products, and found them to be inferior in quality and vastly over-priced. I even received my money back on one item of Lamb plus money to spend on other products. What is wrong with cooking proper food yourself, and preparing your own sandwiches? Why not buy locally produced organic food and help farmers in your own area?
I wouldn't anything from the Duchy of Cornwall since I read that Prince Charles supports the cull of badgers in the south-west.
