Discarded porcelain makes brilliant badges

porcelain%20badges%20copy.jpg
Living in a rented flat, I've found decades' worth of old china and porcelain lurking in cupboards, and while I can't bring myself to throw it away, there's not much you can do with it beyond washing the hell out of it and sending it to your local charity store where it will probably gather dust for months. So I was delighted when I saw this ingenious idea for turning old dishware into funky badges.

Austrian duo Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler came up with the idea, and have created recycled ceramic badges, available for sale at Design Boom. Made from neglected porcelain plates (mainly single pieces) found on flea markets and in charity shops, they select the choice areas on the plates with great graphics and cut by hand with a water jet diamond drill the porcelain badges. $26 [Via Haute*Nature]
