CES 2008: Voltaic introduces solar laptop bag
Those wizards at Voltaic have done it again! Following the success stories of all their other solar-panel portables, they've now succeeded in making a laptop bag covered in solar panels powerful enough to charge your PC while you're on the move. The new bags were unveiled at the CES, the huge consumer electronics show currently taking place in Las Vegas. A few of my colleagues are out there now, and will be scouting for more eco-friendly innovations for the gadget-minded.
The bag will generate up to 14.7 watts of power, compared to about 4 watts on the first generation of backpacks and other bags. The panel charges an internal battery and the same can also charge many other consumer electronics like iPods and mobile phones. The generator is constructed from fabrics made with recycled soda bottles which are tough, waterproof and UV resistant. Voltaic expects to be shipping later this spring, with a suggested retail price of $599.
