liverpool%2008%20bag.JPGA great example of style savvy recycling, Bannerbags take old advertising banners and turn them into functional and funky bags: the banners are sturdy and strong, the design talent that's gone into the ads goes into the bags, and everyone's happy.

The nature of the bags means that new themes are being brought out all the time, as different events generate new material. And the latest range is all about Liverpool's stint as European capital of culture in 2008. Liverpool City council uses PVC street banners to advertise its cultural events, and these have been used to make the new set of bags; you can see some of them here.

Paul Gilbraith, managing director of bannerbags comments: “Thousands of advertising banners are produced for festivals, concerts and advertising campaigns using PVC and polypropylene, which do not biodegrade. Instead of disposing of unwanted banners in landfill sites, we turn seemingly valueless items into eco-friendly fashion. The result is a reasonably priced bag that most discerning fashion conscious people would like to carry.”
