UN to offset Bali delegates' flights

After last week's embarrassing revelation that Bali delegates had wracked up more than 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide since the climate summit began, the UN has stepped in to offset the damage in what must surely amount to the planting of an entire forest.
Twenty UN agencies, funds and programmes present at the Bali climate negotiations in Indonesia have agreed to offset their emissions from the conference which closes on Friday. The news comes as three of the participating nations: New Zealand, Costa Rica and Norway – have all pledged to become climate neutral.
Representatives from more than 180 countries meeting on the Indonesian resort island of Bali have until Friday to agree a framework for tackling global warming past 2012, when pledges under the Kyoto Protocol expire.
