Uncle Bens' bottles get lighter to save C02
If you like your sauces and quick, easy and pre-packaged, odds are you'll have a jar or two of Uncle Ben's in the kitchen cupboard. Sadly, the same people busy enough to need to buy ready-made meals are also likely to be too lazy busy to dispose of the packaging responsibly, so Uncle Ben's (owned by Mars) now comes in a sustainable new bottle. Hurrah!
The launch of the bottles follow a trial testing period and are supported by the government's Waste & Resources Action Program (WRAP). Published reports indicate Mars was able to reduce the weight of Uncle Ben's sauce jars by 6% which will save 450 tons of glass per year or 1,215 tons of CO2 emissions. Now, get those jars down the recycling plant, and we can call that progress!
