How inconvenient! Hackers target Al Gore's climate blog
As every seasoned blogger knows only too well, fending off spam and hack-attacks goes with the territory. But when you're an internationally renowned figure and Nobel Prize winner, the embarrassment can be even greater - as Al Gore found to his cost!
His Climate Crisis blog was targeted by - surprise surprise - an online pharmacy selling viagra and other 'sensitive' substances. The Register explains that this type of hacker likes to piggyback on to high-ranking sites to improve their own google ranking here.
But Ecorazzi points out that Gore had it coming, and really needs to brush up on his blogging skills: the site has not been updated since September 2006 and is using an "outdated and vulnerable version of WordPress". The horror!
