Europeans 'better at being green', study shows

global%20warming%20mug.gifNew research has shown that when it comes to being green, Americans need to start pulling their socks up!

According to the study, which polled 16,000 adults from across Europe and the US, Europeans are ahead of the game in several key areas, including shopping habits, recycling and influencing friends and family to adopt eco-friendly habits. Carried out by Porter Novelli and the Natural Marketing Institute, it found that Europeans are: 50% more likely than Americans to buy “green” products, 25% more likely to recycle and 30% more likely to influence their friends and family about the environment than Americans.

Now, I could easily get all excited here about how much 'greener' we are over here than those greedy yanks, but I'm actually taking these figures with a pinch of salt. Not having lived outside Europe myself, I can't comment on their accuracy, and can see that it would be all too easy to apply stereotypes here: after all, Europeans have been mocked for years over their 'tiny cars', and are less likely to need to fly when travelling. So great - we're more green! However, a main conclusion of the study is that Europeans are 'more easily influenced' by green products, going for those labeled as green, when we all know that a lot of these products are anything but.
