Yay or Nay: the Tefal quick-cup kettle

tefal_quickcup.jpgSince we reviewed the Tefal Quick Cup, opinion has been divided on the gadget, which heats water in 3 seconds making it not only a very quick route to a Rosie Lee, but an environmental godsend to boot.

But through clever wording, what wasn't so obvious to many people who bought the £50 kettle was that it does not actually boil the water. It heats it to just below boiling point, making it more suitable for some beverages than others. For some, this is a small price to pay for the 65% reduction in electricity use, and the speed certainly makes it useful in an office. But others were disappointed in its performance and felt misled.

If you've tried the Quick Cup, how satisfied were you?

Yay of course! I love it. I'm basically obsessed with it. But others in the office object to the froth you get. I think this is just what happens when you involve steam in the tea making process.

YAY!!!!

Its brilliant. I can even over look the problem of the froth.
Im not too extactic with the fact that I cant boil water for the stove too (boiling water using a bottled gas stove uses a lot of gas, so I usually start with boiling water in the kettle, then adding it to the pan)

NAY.I really want it to work but am left really disappointed by its performance. Great idea. Unfortunately though it leaves a scum on the top of a cup of tea (yuk!)and I either under fill the cup or - more usually - overfill. It's like the Magic Porridge Pot of eco kettle things.

I bought this as I thought I have motor skills problems and because I thought it would help the environment - what a waste of money!!! It is noisy and spurts water and steam everywhere and the tea etc goes cold quicker. To my mind it does not live up to the adverts, nor my expectations.

Personally I'm not overly keen as I find the water is basically lukewarm very quickly which is grim for tea. But I like the idea and hope they'll develop it a bit more. Froth I can live with.

I agree the water's not as hot as it could be... and have adapted by not throwing my milk in the fridge (it's not around long enough to go sour anyway) Also... before filling the cup, I 'prime' it first wit a small amount of hot water from the tefal then tip it away. End product using room temp milk and a pre-heated cup... a hot cuppa. :-)
On the energy saving side.. I've noticed the red switch on the tefal is warm - all the while it's plugged in.. is this thing on stand-by... quietly sipping/sapping energy.. throughout the day?

I love it! Haven't had any of the problems mentioned above. It measures exactly the right amount of water, doesn't produce a froth, and the water is hot enough. It is noisy, but the noise is only brief so I can live with that. Only problem is that when the tank is empty, it still keeps trying to work - it should have a cut-out.

The kettle is a very good one, but some bad points are, water collecting at the bottom off the base unit, which is the power unit?
(any feed back!?)
Also, it's not very good for a piping hot cup of British tea...
...but 30 secs in the microwave and job done..
I now live like the my child hood TV heroes..
with my space age household goods and saving the planet too..Nice

I rate the product, overall: 8/10

A good egg product.

Very noisy, so much so that neigbours have complained! Don't buy if you live in a flat.

I've put it on a foam mat which has dampened the vibrations a little but it is still very noisy.
