Catch the sun with new spherical solar panels

solar%20panels.jpgWe tend to think of solar panels as being shiny, flat and all looking much the same, but a Japanese company called Kyosemi is working hard to change our preconceptions about solar panels. In fact, its new flexible, spherical panels could be a lot more efficient at trapping light than the conventional sort.

Apart from the fact that they look futuristic and cool, spherical panels are more effective than flat ones because they can absorb sunlight at any angle. They optimize the use of direct and indirect light and convert energy with nearly 20% accuracy, far ahead any flat photovoltaic technologies.

They are also greener to produce: While in traditional flat solar cells, a lot of silicon is wasted while manufacturing, the process of making the Sphelar cell is as unique as the technology itself.

It is possible in the future to make windows out of this technology that would act as solar panels themselves while maintaining privacy. [Via Ecofriend]

spherical solar panels should be used if they are energy efficient and less costly to the consumer in terms of an energy bill (electricity)
Can rooms in buildings that have no light because of the way that they are constructed
now benefit from a flexible solar panel....? Can this company produce such panels to fit the demand of any specification in terms of(size or shape)???
