PETA calls for Britney Spears to be recognised as an unfit mother to her dogs as well as her children

britdog2.jpg

In an open letter to Kevin Federline, the father of Britney Spears' children, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk has called for the rehoming of Spears' dogs, amidst fears the unbalanced popstar may be incapable of taking proper care of them in her current state.

The request is in direct response to Spears having her children taken from her last week, and is one I am wholeheartedly behind - indeed it is a request which should have been made long ago. Spears is often seen dragging the unfortunate pups around such unsuitable locations as bars and nightclubs. In one particularly unpleasant incident, Spears is alleged to have failed to seek immediate treatment for one of her dogs, London, after he was stepped on and broke his leg.

PETA are asking that Federline be given custody of the dogs, not only for the purposes of removing them from the unsatisfactory conditions under which Spears is forcing them to live, but also in order to reunite them with Spears and Federline's children, who, PETA suggests, are probably missing the canine companions with whom they have spent so much of their childhoods. PETA believes that the presence of the dogs will prove a calming, comforting influence on the children as they attempt to get through this tumultuous period in their lives.

Good grief. She brings her dogs with her everywhere which is more than I can say for most of the population who keeps their animals crated all day long. People need to leave this girl alone so she can heal and better herself.

Wow, another amazing example of PETA going too far. They have no right to get involved in people's personal business. I hope everyone watched the episode of Penn and Teller's show Bullsh•t which deals with PETA to learn the truth about them.

Small dogs are usually frightened by small children and not likely to deal well with the pulling and pinching toddlers do. Britney's dog London is seen out with Britney constantly which is much better than home alone all day.

But PETA wants K-Fed to have Brits' dog and then he can figure out how to keep the dog well and kids not bitten or scratched......Oh I know, K-Fed will put London in dog fights!!!Sounds like a plan PETA. I think PETA needs a new President!!

That's sickening about her not bothering when somebody trod on London and broke his leg. Somebody should stand on HER leg and see how she likes it. And then refuse to call the ambulance despite the fact that it is obviously hideously fractured.

Honestly that's so unfair. How would you like it if you were a Hollywood superstar and somebody sat on YOUR leg? Grow up.

I think it's very easy to sit in judgement over someone in the public eye when all we have is the heavily edited-for-sensation 'info' that the media chooses to feed us. The only people that truly know any situation are those involved, so what right has anyone got to jump to conclusions and make snap judgements about people?

It's all very well for PETA to declare that the children would be better for having the dogs around and I don't dispute that but perhaps it's also better for Britney to have her canine companions around too? Whatever kind of mother she may or may not be, it must be awful for her to have her children removed (if indeed they actually were) - taking her dogs might push her over the edge. How would any of us feel if everything we loved was taken away bit by bit?

Referencing the broken leg thing - has anyone ever stopped to consider that perhaps she didn't actually realise the dog was seriously injured? I have two reasons for saying this:

Firstly as a person who has been involved in animal rescue for many years, I have seen first-hand on numerous occasions, animals with broken bones that show little sign of serious injury. I know from personal experience that a broken leg is not always apparent, especially with small animals.

Secondly, my youngest son broke his collarbone whilst staying at his father's for the weekend (he fell off a swing). He was nine at the time and although he was in a great deal of pain, neither he nor his father realised the extent of the damage that had been done. When I collected him (seven hours after the accident), his father told me what had happened, so I immediately took him to hospital, where of course, it was discovered that he had in fact broken his collarbone.

My point is this - if a person may not realize a child that is perfectly able to communicate coherently, has a fracture, then is is outside the realms of possiblity that Britney simply didn't realize either?

I'm hugely reluctant to judge a person based on what amounts to nothing more than gossip. If it transpires that yes, she is maltreating the animals, then sure, remove them to a safe place but for goodness' sake, get the girl some help too because frankly, anyone that mistreats animals, kids, whatever, is likely to be in need of help themselves.

I think with Britney, it's a case of too much too young. She's probably not had the benefit of being allowed to be an ordinary person growing up in an ordinary life. No surprise then if she does act irresponsibly...if indeed she does.

I sincerely hope that if she is troubled, she is able to resolve things - it would be such a waste to throw away a life that could be so wonderful.

Thank you, 'Nicole le Strange'... you just said exactly what I want to say whenever people start in on Britney Spears, or really anyone... It's so easy to judge people on the tiny amounts of info we have about them, and we do it all the time, with celebrities, politicians, even coworkers and neighbors. I fall prey to this too, we all do, but it's nice to hear from someone who DOESN'T think they know more about Britney's life than she does.

Somehow, I think that there are more important things going on in the Spears/Federline saga than the state of some pampered pooches. I'm all for helping animals out, but for crying out loud, PETA is such a joke. Instead of doing something that is actually making a difference, they waste their time picking on celebrities and actually expect them to care.
