I've heard of organic search engines before, but Google has decided to go organic in the more eco-friendly sense, with the launch of a fun clothing and accessories line. Not only have they chosen organic fabric in the new range, but much of it is also made from organic bamboo, of which we heartily approve!

The ladies' tees pictured above are 100% organic bamboo and cotton, while the travel organiser is organic cotton and hemp. All are available via the Google store. [Via EcoFriend]

Ever got into the office on a dull day in need of a kick up the backside? A far more pleasant solution is using dynamic lighting, which can be adjusted to mimic daylight, create a more intimate, relaxed ambiance or promote concentration. The new system I tested at the Philips Simplicity event does all these things and more, and amazingly, uses eco-friendly technology, as it relies on a modernised version of the humble fluorescent strip-light to do its thing. See how it works in the video below.

hybrid-toyota-RiN.jpgDuring the Tokyo Motor Show of 2007, car-giant Toyota showed off their eco-friendly hybrid concept car.

Dubbed 'RiN', it not only promotes environmental sustainability, but also looks after its users, with heated seats, an oxygen-level conditioner, pinpoint humidifier and green grass to reduce ultraviolet rays from reaching its passengers. It also does wonderful things to the people outside of the car too, in the form of headlights with light distribution. We want. So bad :( [Via Tech Digest]

florame.jpgThere are all sorts of reasons to avoid obscure chemical ingredients in cosmetics; not least that nobody can be sure exactly of their impact on our bodies. What we do know is that many of these substances are absorbed and stay beneath the skin for some time after use, and the jury's out on whether this could cause harm to our long-term health, as well as that of the planet when the products are disposed of. For many, that's not a risk worth taking.

Happily, there are now plenty of options available that use only natural ingredients we have used and understood for generations. One such range is made by Florame, and we've got a goodie bag worth over £60 of their new organic DermaStress products for you to try. This anti-aging range range contains an exclusive compound of essential oils capable of naturally preventing skin stress – one of the principle contributors to the ageing process.

PhilipsLogo.jpg

You may associate Philips with little more than washing machines and radios, but the company has come a long way since its days as a humble electrical supplier. Now, it wants to change your life -- with a new range of products designed to promote the ideas of 'sense and simplicity'.

Not sure quite what to make of all this, I found out more at its extravagant Simplicity event yesterday. Philips' version of the future looked initially like Second Life, but let's not forget it is one of the greenest electrical companies out there, and is pioneering all sorts of interesting feel-good lighting products using LED and fluorescent technology, both of which are very energy-efficient. It is breathing new life into the much-maligned fluorescent strip light, creating dynamic lighting that's as soft or as bright as you like.

bottled%20water.jpgLondoners alone consume the equivalent of an olympic-sized swimming pool a week in bottled water. Some of this will have been flown in from places as far-flung as Fiji, and almost all of it is bottled in plastic, so the environmental concerns are obvious.

Why do this when there's an abundant supply of clean water freely available from our taps? A group of campaigners from the London Assembly Green Party has proposed an answer in the form of a ban on the sale of bottled water in the capital, and have suggested it is held in 'specially designed carafes'.

The wider Green Party is supporting the proposal, and is urging London Mayor Ken Livingstone to follow the example set by Paris, and remove bottled water from restaurants, cafes and offices. But how do you feel about the idea? Personally, I would fully support removing bottled water from public eateries, not least because it's a sneaky way for waiters to get more money out of you when you make the unforgivable mistake of asking for 'water'. But I'm not sure I'd want it taken out of shops unless access to tap water is vastly improved. Failing that, I think most people would resort to buying more sugary drinks (also in bottles) when they get thirsty on the run.

body%20shop%20xmas.jpgYou know it's nearly Christmas when...the Body Shop brings out a new range of smelly, spicy goodies to warm your heart and home. I've already tried the rich plum home fragrance, which I can strongly recommend, so I'm very pleased to see they've put the scent in several other products, too.

In addition to the plum fragrance, you can indulge your senses with cranberry, spicy vanilla and sweet chestnut, all recently introduced for the new season. Choose from cranberry bubble bath (£10.00) with natural cranberry extract, strawberry, cassis, coconut oil and hints of unripe apple; shimmering bath bubbles (£10.00) – another fabulous bath product which contains organic honey, vanilla and orange base notes, and delicious sweet chestnut extract, and many more limited edition festive treats.

all%20green%20promotions.jpgIf you take your corporate social responsibility seriously, then All Green Promotions is a site you need to visit. From ringbinders and rulers to boomerangs and baseball caps, All Green Promotions provides a whole range of recycled, eco-friendly and fairly traded items upon which you can have your company logo printed. A wide variety of recycled materials is used in the production of their products, including recycled bottles, CD cases and rubber tyres.

I was very pleased to see that a site like this existed - although I have to say I did feel a small smile nudging the corners of my mouth at the idea of a very important CEO accessorising his or her office with old tyres! Joking aside, however, it's good to know that even when high-flying businessmen are out networking on the golf course, this site gives them the option of promoting their organisations with recycled golf tags and pitch mark forks...

tatty%20bumpkin%20bags.jpgTatty Bumpkin has a great idea for keeping kids' toys in one place, so you can wave goodbye to lost jigsaw pieces and the tears and tantrums associated with lost toys.

The colourful toy bags are hand woven from organically grown fair trade cotton, and ideal for keeping all sorts of toys, from marbles, tiddly winks and crayons to board games, puzzle pieces and toy soldiers, safely intact. Each bag has a black front panel for writing in chalk what’s inside as well as a pocket for instructions. The set includes three bags in a range of sizes (40 x 40cm, 25 x 25cm and 15 x 15) for £9.99 from Tatty Bumpkin.

The National Theatre has been doing some very cool stuff with lighting in recent years, so I was thrilled to see that it has now ensured this very welcome addition to the London skyline is as green as it can be.

Teaming up with Philips, whose Simplicity ethos aims to reduce energy consumption in all its products, the NT is to replace its existing lighting with a state of the art, dynamic energy efficient design using LEDs.

The new lighting system (which will be used both outside and inside the theatre) will not only help to keep up the dramatic appearance of the iconic building at night; Executive Director Nick Starr also points out that the savings made in energy costs will allow the theatre to 'spend more on putting on plays and performances and less on electricity and maintenance'. It is hoped that other theatres and cinemas will see how effective the greener lights can be and follow suit.

Philips has already installed the new systems at several other worldwide landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, London’s O2 arena, the Acropolis in Athens and the Eiffel Tower.

brown%20bin%20dg.jpgLast month, Hippyshopper's Jonathan Kalmus tested Biobags, an eco-friendly alternative to black bin bags, and was so impressed that we decided to team up with Bin Liners Direct to offer a year's supply of the bags to three lucky winners. We can now tell you that the readers selected to receive the prize are:

Emma Dawes of Chester
Trevor Corbitt of Middlesborough
Cheryl Pasquier of Hastings

Bin bags are an annoying thing to have to buy, so that's one task that these three won't have to worry about for a whole year! And they'll be saving the earth from a whole lot of plastic waste too, as BioBags are 100% biodegradable & compostable which break down when using conventional composting methods to water, CO2 & compost in 45 days.

ferrari-segway.jpgHere's one Ferrari that won't pollute! It may not have quite the same effect on members of the opposite sex either, but hey, at least you won't attract as many gold-diggers...

The zero-carbon-emission, testa rossa red limited edition Segway shares all the planet-friendly virtues with its predecessor, so if you're lucky enough to live somewhere where it's legal to ride one, you can move effortlessly indoors or out, and nobody will be able to miss you as you blaze by.

partridge%20%284%29.jpgWe all love getting cards from our friends at Christmas, but since we send over 1 billion of the things each year, the amount of paper used is phenomenal. So if you want to go a step further in promoting good in the season of goodwill, Nigel's Eco Store has some of the coolest recycled Christmas cards I've seen.

So if you're organised enough to be thinking about card-sending already and you'd like to reduce the waste you generate during the festive season, you might want to check out the selection. It's just come in, and I'm loving the bright and cheery designs. They're printed with earth-friendly, vegetable based inks on 100% recycled card they come in packs of 10 for £10. Choose from Robin, Partridge or Dove.

thermal%20underwear.jpgThis morning, en route to work, I overheard my first little old lady saying 'it's time to put on the thermals!' And people found this rather funny. But she wasn't wrong; it's getting pretty nippy out there.

But it occurred to me that it only ever is little old ladies that make this very obvious adjustment to their wardrobe each winter, while the rest of us freeze in our 'sexy' all-year-round lingerie. Why? Is there any reason that thermal underwear can't be designed to look attractive too? It would certainly cut down on our use of heating if we had an extra layer of padding under our clothes.

And happily, it seems at least one label has had this idea. Enamore, makers of scrummy ethical lingerie have brought a touch of glamour to cozy underwear, including their fabulous Juliet nightie (and, of course, there's always the self-heating bra). But I reckon there's a lot of scope for truly stylish warming underwear this winter.
