Scientists are warning of the spread of ‘megafires’ around the world. Megaifres are huge fires burning at 1,000C or more, which cannot be extinguished by any thing we can do. The fires rage out of control destroying thousands of acres of land. They get so hot, they create their own weather systems, even triggering tornadoes. The incidences of megafires are increasing due to global warming and apparently misguided environmentalism. This summer in southern Europe over 1.9 million acres of land has been burnt by megafires. In the USA last year 9.6 million acres of land were destroyed by megafires. In Australia last year the state of Victoria suffered 200 fires in one day.
Sounds like something out of a disaster movie, but it is another aspect of climate change we will have to contend with. It just shows how urgently we must deal with global warming. We must all do whatever we can to reduce our own personal carbon footprint as much as we can. Hopefully businesses and governments will follow suit.
