Stand up to animal cruelty at World Farmed Animals Day
In honour of vegetarian and humanitarian Mahatma Gandhi's birthday on October 2nd, hundreds of activists worldwide will come together for the 25th annual observance of World Farmed Animals Day (WFAD) and stand up to the needless suffering and death of 50 billion cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens and other animals in the the world's factory farms and slaughter houses. The occasion will be marked with educational events and activities, including information tables, exhibits, video screenings, street theatre, leafleting, vigils, marches and memorial services. The featured event for this year is a "cage-in" where demonstraters will confine themselves in cages to simulate the way animals are imprisoned in factory farms. A recent survey in the United States indicates that 90 per cent of consumers disapprove of the mistreatment of farm animals.
